Wombles on Comic Relief night!

March 6th, 2011 by David Crane

Hi everyone.

Those of you that are regulars to the TKRS radio shows on Ace Radio will have heard the on-going jokes aimed at myself concerning The Wombles.

For those of you who aren’t aware… There has been a constant demand from certain listeners to convince me to play The Wombles on my shows. My street-cred normally will not allow me to play such tracks, although on one occasion I played a tune just for the shock factor, “He actually played it!”, and i also played a Christmas tune for the same affect.

Now that Comic Relief is fast approaching I have had the idea of playing a selection of Wombles tracks during my Friday night SKA show on March 18th to help raise money for Comic Relief.

This is where you come in… If you would like to join the campaign to get me to play The Wombles on my show then all you need to do is make a donation via the link below. All money raised will be forwarded to Comic Relief at 11pm (UK) on the night of March 18th.

Now, obviously, we want to raise as much money as we can for the charity, so… The more money you donate, the more tracks I will play (up to a maximum of 3 to comply with PRS licencing regulations). The first song will be added to the playlist once the donations reach £50, and then another at £100, and another at £150.

But don’t stop there!!!

Just because we reach the £150 to add all 3 tracks into the list it doesn’t mean you have to stop donating. It’s for a good cause afterall, so donate as much, or as little as you can afford and help us raise some money for Comic Relief!

Start donating NOW and I’ll play The Wombles!

Thanks everyone.

David Crane (DC)

DONATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

I have just donated £220 to Comic Relief raised by the listeners and presenters of Ace Radio during our “Womble Quest”.

Thank you to everyone who donated. (DC)

WCRS Video Aircheck

February 11th, 2011 by Michael Young

In the grand tradition of YouTube, I have posted my own video aircheck of last week’s WCRS show so that people who can’t sit through 2 hours of me rabbiting away can get it all over with in 15 minutes.

For copyright reasons obviously I can’t include all the music, but I’ve credited which songs you hear snippets of, as well as lyrics to my start-up jingle!!

In this aircheck, you can hear a sample of the music I play, my jingles, two of my promoted artists, the Instrumental Interlude and the Classic Album section, as well as my signoff.

No 1 Internet Radio Station Once Again

January 14th, 2011 by Amazing Mark

Once again Ace Radio has been awarded number one position at the Internet Radio Awards.

Personally I  put this down to the fantastic team of presenters we have here who all work as if we’re one big family and always for the good of the station.    Also we have a very diverse skill mix of abilities here outside of presenting too where our people all have something unique to offer to the station in addition to their programmes.

I would like to personally thank everyone involved in the station for all their dedicated hard work and support and hope that this award will be a pat on the back for us all.

Well done guys and gals and I hope you take a lot of pride in what we have all achieved here as it wouldn’t have happened without every one of us.

Also I would like to thank the dedicated bunch of listeners too who tune in and chat in our chat room.  Without you Ace Radio wouldn’t have built up the great and diverse community that it has done.

This latest award just goes to show that because of all the fantastic personalities here on the station…. Ace Radio really is ACE.

Remembering John Lennon

November 29th, 2010 by David Crane

John Winston Ono Lennon MBE: 9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980

It’s so hard to ‘imagine’ that it has been thirty years since John was taken away from us in such a mindless act of insanity at the hands of one of his so-called fans. I remember the day so clearly when I heard the news from my step-father, himself a huge Beatles/Lennon fan, and a major influence on my radio career. He was devastated! As a thirteen year old boy the news wasn’t a major impact on me at the time, but I felt the emotion and loss in my own way as the world mourned his passing.

Thirty years on and I have lived a life surrounded by and, at times, dictated and directed by music. I have learned to appreciate the pain and anguish in many of the songs that most people take for granted as “just a song”. My passion for The Beatles and John Lennon has grown to an almost obsessive state, and will remain with me forever.

To mark the 30th anniversary of John’s passing I will be playing numerous songs during my show on Ace Radio. These will vary from Beatles songs sung by Lennon to solo songs from Lennon himself, and also cover versions of Lennon songs by many of the artists who were influenced by him. Some people may not agree with some of the covers I have chosen, but I feel it is a very fitting way to pay tribute to a man who can honestly be considered a true music legend.

May he forever rest in peace!

David Crane

TKRS – Back To School

November 12th, 2010 by David Crane

Teenage Kicks is going “Back To School” on Wednesday November 17th.

This is where it all began as David Crane goes back to his school days of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. From 2-Tone and Ska to Rockabilly and New-Wave, and even including some of the pop-chart tunes from the period, these are the songs that gave David his Teenage Kicks.

Requests are welcome during the show, or can be emailed in advance to david@aceradio.co.uk

(David reserves the right to decline any request that is deemed not suitable for the show.)

Watch Orly on TV and please vote for her to win.

October 27th, 2010 by Amazing Mark

Orly Vardy

One of Ace Radio’s favourite independent artists has entered a clip of herself performing on Romanian Television chanel Antena 1 on a website called

‘Show Me TV’

in a competition to win a cash prize of €3,000.

I personally watched this performance live as it was broadcast but now you can see it too by visiting  the web site Show Me TV.

http://www.showme.tv/users/orlyvardy

As this is a competition we would be grateful if you could take a minute to sign up to the site and vote for Orly to win.  It’s free to cast a free vote and every vote will make a difference.

As you know many of us who use the Internet as our medium depend on each other to vote for stuff  so please take the time to help her along.

Thanks for helping…  Mark

October 21st, 2010 by David Crane

Teenage Kicks – Out On The Floor:

This weeks show includes the first play on Ace Radio of the brand new Tony Christie single “Nobody In The World”.

Taken from the upcoming album, “Now’s The Time!”, it’s a fantastic soulful track that could have easily been recorded back in the sixties.

Tune in from 8pm (UK) this Friday Oct 22nd to judge for yourself.

Big thanks to Eddie and Berit from Acid Jazz for allowing us to play the song before it’s November 1st release date.

All the best, David Crane (DC)

The Pub is moving!

July 13th, 2010 by Andy Swingler

Hi everyone!

We’ve packed up the glasses, unhooked the pumps and as we speak we’re moving across the road to Saturday evenings!  Now you can enjoy your favorite drinks with your favorite music and a whole bunch of good friends every Saturday evening from 10pm until 1am (UK).

By popular demand we’re bring our dancing poles with us, and rumor has it that the Mud Pit might even make an appearance from time to time ;)  And of course there will be the usual fun and games in the chat room (or The Snug as we like to call it), the slightly temperamental Pub Jukebox, and your first drink on the house!

So make sure you check out The Pub, exclusively on Ace Radio, live from Laguna Beach in California with your host Andy Swingler this weekend!
